Recessional EstampieWhen I was learning to play the organ, I was required to learn the Estampie from the School of Worcester which is one of the earliest keyboard manuscripts that remain. With its combination of half notes and 32nd notes, learning the rhythm was arduous. This piece is what I wish I had been learning!
I wrote this in order to include it as a recessional in my Medieval Wedding Collection, but was quickly informed by my family that this would be more suitable for Vikings, or as a battle march. Nevertheless, I am undeterred. I love this thing and will not leave it out, and I long to meet the couple brave enough to choose this for their wedding! |
